When Iyah woke up this morning she has rashes on her face and when I changed her diaper I saw more rashes on her tummy and legs. I was worried of course, you know when you are a first time mom and know nothing about these things it can be quite scary. So I immediate YMed two friends who I know would be online and called another friend to ask about it, I also searched the internet for information then called hubby from work. He went home during lunch time accompany us. I could tell she’s well because she’s playing and smiling but I wanted to be sure there’s nothing to worry about so we went to the clinic. It turns out she has a viral fever rash, something that is not uncommon in babies. She did have a slight fever last Friday and Saturday but was well since Sunday. The doctor gave us some cream to put on her rash in case it gets itchy but she’s not scratching the rashes so I’m not applying anything yet. Except for the rashes on her body she’s really fine. We were asked to monitor her temperature every six hours though and so far it is normal. Here’s what I found on the internet about her rash…
Viral illness – the most common rash suddenly appearing on your child is rash due to a variety of viruses. Some viruses can be easily identified, including chicken pox, fifth disease, and roseola. Most viruses, however, do not cause their own specific type of rash as chicken pox does. These generic viral rashes can have many different appearances, such as lacy or pimply, raised or flat, bumps, spots, or blotches, and they often (but not always) start on the trunk, and then spread to the extremities.
The most important thing to understand here is that if your child has a fever or is not feeling well, and breaks out in one of these generic rashes, then it is probably a harmless virus and nothing to worry about. The rashes should be gone by the end of this week.
