All About The Memories

Spendin’ time on the kitchen

I have been keeping with cooking dinner for the past week now and I’m so proud of myself. Now if I have one of those Moen kitchen faucet it would be more fun to do the clean up. Anyway I need more recipes to try because if I’m going to start cooking dinner I need to throw a couple of new dishes to the mix otherwise we would have boring meals pretty quickly. I need to make a trip to the grocery store again though, I have a few ingredients that I need to buy for the next meal I’m going to cook.

Project Runway

It’s good that some of the TV shows I watched are now starting their new season, I finally have something to look forward to each week. Season 8 of Project Runway looks promising, a lot of interesting designers and I can’t wait to see what they come up with. I hope to see great challenges that would push them to be creative and think outside the box. I was really rooting for last season’s winner, let’s see who will catch my eye this season.

I need my sleep

I’m suppose to be sleeping early but as usual I got sucked in watching my favorite TV shows online as well as reading reviews about Lipofuze. I should really start sleeping earlier than I’m used to, I don’t want to have more than one cup of coffee in the morning, one cup a day is my limit nothing more than that. Oh speaking of morning I think I’ll make some french toast for breakfast this weekend, that with fresh fruits should make a nice meal before we head out. I’m so looking forward to a long weekend ahead (August 9th is Singapore’s National Day so it’s a public holiday).

Southern Cooking at Low Prices

Thanks for the article from Annette Medina

My family’s favorite restaurant to have a nice dinner out is at Christy Mae’s. We first discovered this restaurant when purchasing a gift certificate on Restaurant.com. We decided to use our $25 gift certificate there and take the whole family. We gathered the family up, set our security alarm monitoring system before leaving the house and headed to the country style kitchen restaurant for dinner. We were actually pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere there. It was just like eating in someone’s large diner somewhere in the south. The staff was friendly, the place was decorated in old fashioned kitchen items and the atmosphere was cozy.

The items on the menu were all southern specialties, from corn on the cob to mashed potatoes, biscuits and gravy, chicken fried steak and everything else hot and delicious. I had ordered the chicken strip dinner and couldn’t believe how huge a meal it was. It came with green chile chicken soup, home fries, chicken strips and corn on the cob. I couldn’t even finish it, so I took the rest home. The prices are so decent that we were just short of our $35 minimum required purchase to use the gift certificate. So we decided to split a dessert and fell in love with their creamy strawberry cheesecake. Ever since this day, my family and I have returned to Christy Mae’s time and time again.

Comment on accident lawyer

I agree accidents happen no matter how cautious you are. Getting involved in a vehicular accident is not something I would want for myself, I know for sure though that I would want someone like a denver accident lawyer to be on my side when I need help on matters like this.

Despicable Me

We love watching movies, it is more fun when you get to watch for free….on a weekend. We had complimentary passes that were valid for July so last Saturday we went to GV Tampines to use it. I booked the tickets using my phone (thanks to iGV app) to make sure we got good seats then just proceeded to exchange our complimentary passes for tickets. I only paid a buck for the booking fee and for drinks and popcorn. The movie was nice, it was the only animated film so we didn’t have much choice but we enjoyed it.

Clean up

I’m thinking I should switch facial wash and soon, I don’t think my face likes L’oreal because I’m getting a few blemishes and no one likes to get blemishes. I don’t want to resort to using acnepril to clear up my face so I’m going back to using Olay which was what I’ve been using for a while before I found another facial wash on sale and decided to try it. Note to self: not everything on sale is good for you, lesson learned. Good thing it’s not noticeable after I dab some concealer on it otherwise I would be really ticked. I don’t have an elaborate skincare regime so I really need a good facial wash.

Keeping Mom comfortable

Guest post written by Kirk Raine

Keeping up our mother’s home has turned into quite a project for my siblings and me. Our parents built the house themselves decades ago and they definitely were not contractors or construction workers, which means that we’re constantly finding things in the house that need to be fixed to maintain the structure.

Last summer we replaced the heating and cooling system and the old siding. Aside from some carpet replacements and fresh coats of paint, we’ve mostly relied upon sears home improvement for all of the work. Our latest project has been the roof. We noticed a few leaks about a month ago and knew that this was something that needed to be fixed pretty soon.

Besides, the roof used to be chocolate brown and had faded into a tired-looking light brown color. We’re in the middle of the roof installation right now and the parts that are complete look so much better than the old brown color. We went with chocolate brown again for the color because that’s what our parents picked out all those years ago. Mom is really looking forward to seeing it finished and I can tell she’s going to love it.

Day 7: Pangasinan 1

July 12

We started our day at an early 3:30am, everyone was up and ready to go. My parents are always on time if not early when it comes to meetups and appointments so I was expecting us to arrive in Pangasinan before lunch time. We went to MIL’s house to pick the rest of the group and by 5am we were en route to Pangasinan. We were at the NLEX when we got a message from my SIL that there was a typhoon, all of us looked at the clear sky and said that she shouldn’t worry. It was an uneventful road trip, nothing out of the ordinary happened which is a good thing when you have two kids on board. We had breakfast at Jollibee Luisita Mall, Tarlac and did some grocery shopping too. I wanted to make sure I had enough of Iyah’s favorite snacks with more to spare for her cousin. There wasn’t any traffic and no rain either so we reached our destination at around 11:00am. We were greeted by our aunts and had a sumptuous lunch afterwards. We all proceeded to do our own thing the rest of the afternoon, the oldies chatting with each other while me and my sister look after the kiddos. All got the rest they deserved after driving for about six hours.

Later that afternoon we traveled about forty five minutes to another town to visit our ninong and ninang (from our wedding), their daughter was also one of our flower girls. Eventhough we were still quite full we had yet another feast from Goldilocks. It was nice seeing them again after almost five years, oh my and our flower girl is now taller than me…yes it has been that long.

We left after dinner (yes we had another meal I was feeling really bloated around this time) and it rained on our way back to the house. The wind was strong too, although the rain didn’t last long. As we were in the province we went to bed quite early…only to be awaken in the middle of the night because it was brownout! I wanted Iyah to experience a lot of things during our vacation here but brownout wasn’t on my list. Hubby and I spent the rest of the night trying to make her comfortable, we took turns using our cardboard fan to she could at least get some air. I had to take off her pj’s so she wouldn’t feel so hot (big mistake because the following morning she had a huge insect bite on her ankle). Only when power was restored at 5:30am the following morning did we managed to get a few hours of decent sleep.

Despite the brownout I think our first day here in Pangasinan was great.

Mom’s birthday

Guest post written by Catherine Meyers

Most of the time I wait until the last minute to pick out gifts for my mom’s birthday. She always seems grateful and happy about whatever given present I get her, whether it’s a sweater or a random bestseller that I pick up from a display in a chain book store. But this year I started planning ahead.

I had recently looked up internet providers MN because my internet was a little slow and I thought that my mom may want a laptop. But then I realized it was out of my budget. So I did my research on MP3 players and found a few that I thought she may like to use when she runs in her neighborhood.

I ran the idea by my little brother and he thought it was a good idea too. So he pitched in a bit and we also found her cute pink and peach paisley-printed holder with coordinating headphones. We settled on our choices and I ordered them through wildblue satellite internet service the next day.

I think my mom is actually getting some use out of the MP3 player, at least more so than I think she would with a books she’d read in a week.
